Position Title:

Director of Terminal Operations

Description:

Gordon Trucking, Inc. is looking for a qualified individual for our Director of Terminal Operations, Southern California Terminal. The new facility, located in Rancho Cucamonga, houses a complete operations team and a full maintenance shop. The person we are seeking will specifically manage the Operations of the terminal; working closely with our Terminal Maintenance Manager and Vice President of Operations for the Southern California region.

Some of the responsibilities associated with this position are:
Regional/Divisional/Fleet Strategy - Assist RVP, DRO, Sales and Marketing in the development of region, division and fleet strategy.
Regional/Divisional/Fleet Tactics - Translate regional, divisional and fleet strategy into operating tactics.
Regional/Divisional/Fleet Priorities - Set, manage and communicate priorities on a daily basis (commitments, service, traffic rules).
Operations Execution Plans - Manage regional group execution.
Process Management - Act as the process owner for operations process, as well as act as front line champion for continuous improvement efforts.
Team Assessment, Coaching, and Development - select, coach and develop regional operations personnel.
Safety – Manage the overall safety performance of a division/fleet. Work with Regional Safety Coordinators to conduct safety initiatives and training. Assist in coaching, developing and training where needed.
Productivity – Monitor, manage and continually improve fleet productivity.
Maintenance – Work closely with the Terminal Maintenance Manager to create and maintain a safety and service culture. Create a team bond to effectively maintain and improve the terminal. Manage regional performance on driver and driver manager compliance with preventative maintenance programs
Service Performance – Manage and oversee regional performance on key operations processes including dispatching drivers in a timely manner, safe and on time delivery, accurate and timely data entry, and associated paperwork. Monitor Driver’s activity to ensure on time delivery.
Customers – Involvement in the regional customer base including shippers and consignees. Involvement in customer visits and issue resolution.
Cost Control – Manage regional and terminal performance on key cost factors including safety/claims performance, staffing, asset usage, driver fuel compliance, preventative maintenance, layover/breakdown (asset utilization), out of route, projects and vendor usage.
Driver Satisfaction – Manage regional performance on key driver satisfaction areas including safety, professional development, home time needs, productivity, and pay/benefit questions. Support Fleet managers and Driver Managers in meeting the needs of drivers, direct investigations to resolve Driver and customer complaints.
Driver/Staff Development - Staffing/performance evaluations, Training (safety/systems), Progressive discipline.
Facility – Manage and accountable for facility safety, risk compliance, regulatory compliance (local, state and federal), maintenance, cleanliness, organization, project management, continuous improvement

Requirements: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the following attributes in previous roles and have the following experience:
Leadership & management experience, problem analysis, planning, organization, initiative and sound judgment. Knowledge of the transportation industry, DOT regulations, equipment specifications and management, performance analysis, customer relations. Educational requirements: 4 year degree from an accredited university or college.
